Mar. 20, 1974 - Cup final goal brings boy back to life ? A goal by Leeds United against Chelsea in the 1970 Cup Final brought a nine-year old Martin Rohan, of Northolt, Middlesex, back to life. He was semi-conscious for two months after being injured in a road accident. On the day the Cup Final his father was beside him watching the match on television, and when Mick Jones scored for Leeds, Martin?s favourite team, he smiled. Before this, Martin had shown no sign of recognition of his parents and had no interest in anything. It was the first sign of recognition since the accident, said Mr. Patrick Rohan yesterday, after Martin had been awarded ?25, 000 damages in the High Court for his injuries. ?After that he seemed to get better quickly, said his mother, Mrs. Margaret Rohan. ?I went to see him nest day and he recognized me.? ?That goal obviously played a part.? Martin, now 13, is back at school, and can walk, although he is still handicapped by a speech defect and partial paralysis of his left side.
