Feb. 29 While President Sukarno Threatens Seizure of West Guinea His Daughter Sings in Opera. While President Sukarno of Indonesia threatens to seize West New Guinea from the Dutch after proclaiming the territory to be an Indonesian province with the name of West Iran, his beautiful daughter, soprano Rukmini Sukmawati, has launched herself on an international singing career. When she was sixteen years old, Rukmini went to Italy to study singing and has now had her first singing success outside Italy as prima donna in The Secret Wedding by Cimarosa, in Belgrade, Yugoslavia where she scored a great triumph. Rukmini is Indonesia's first operatic soprano and following her success in Belgrade she has now received offers from others of the world's capitals to perform in opera.
