Rupert Davies in role of Cardinal who becomes Pope

Feb. 02, 1964 - Now Its Cardinal Maigret : Forty seven year old Rupert Davies - who made his name with his BBC portrayal of Inspector Maigret is to take on a new role. He is playing an 80 year old Cardinal who becomes the Pope - in a new play called The Successor by German author Reinhard Raffalt - over which there has been much controversy - and which has its world premiere in Bristol on February 25th. Rupert Davies bears a close resemblance to the late Pope John about whom the play is said to have been written.
