Dec. 12, 1953 - Russians shoot Mother and son family travelling from East to West Berlin.: Russian troops on Sunday night killed Joachim Wozniak (16) and seriously wounded his mother in the thight they fired on the van in which the family was travelling from the Autobabn checkpoint at Babelsberg in teh East Zone to West Berlin Police post on the intersector frontier. West Berlin police, to whom the father run for assistance, were not permitted by the Russians to cross the frontier to give medical help. People's Police later allowed Wozniak to drive the vehicle back to their post at Babelzberg. No medical help was available there. After further delay he was permitted to drive the vehicle into West Berlin. By this time his son had died and his wife was seriously ill from loss of blood. The West Berlin murder squad are investigating the incident. Photo shows Mrs. Wozniak receives medical attention in the West Section some time after the shooting
