Nov. 11, 1957 - The Russian Satellite Dog Still Races Around The Orbit. Experts Believe That It Cannot Be Returned To Earth. Experts believe that the dog now travelling around the orbit in the Sputnik II - Russia's latest Satellite - will die in space. The Red Moon is cruising around the globe at 18, 000 miles an hour - at between 200 and 500 miles above the earth. The dog has been used in a number of space experiments by the Russian scientists.
