North Pole - 6 drifting scientific station: The staff of the North Pole - 6 Drifting Scientific Station, which was set up by the Soviet, is conducting weather observations, studying the upper layers of the atmosphere and making hydrological investigations the results of which observations are daily communicated to the mainland by radio. During the first four months of being set up, the ice floe on which the station is situated covered over 340 kilometres was about 75 kilometres.
