Mar. 27 Mercy Plane arrives from the USSR.: Several foreign countries are rushing aid to Ceylonby air and sea to help in the relief of victims of the 120 m.p.h. cyclone which it the north and east of the Island on Tuesday, December 22nd, 1964. A special Russian plane, carrying a consignment of food, medicines, and clothing, from the Red Cross Society of the USSR arrived in Colombo on New Year's Day. The consignment, weighing 12, 500 lbs. included 5 cases of clothing, 25 cases of medicines, 42 cases (2222 lbs) of condensed milk, 1010 kilograms (2222 lbs) of packeted sugar, and 1000 blankets.
