Aug. 08, 1960 - New World Record in the hop-skip: was reached by Polish Jozef Szmidt (JOSEF SZMIDT) during the Polish Championships in Olsztyn (OLSZTYN, former Allenstein). He reached 17.03 metres and with that jumped 33 cm farther than the former World Champion, Russian Fiedosiejew (FIEDOSIEJEW) and also crossed the dream limit of 17 metres. The first one to congratulate him was his brother Edward (EDWARD) -left-, himself a well-known Polish sprinter and member of the 4 x 100-metres national relay
