May 05, 1964 - Nasser, Kruschev, Aref And Sallal Divert The Nile: At a ceremony last week, President Nasser of the U.A.R. and his guests Mr. Kruschev of Russia, President Aref of Iraq and President Sallal of the Yemen jointly pressed a button to detonate explosives which blew up the upper coffer dam and released the waters of the river Nile into the diversion canal to allow the workings of the Aswan High Dam to be continued.
