Sep. 09, 1962 - The recently appointed first town commander of East Berlin; Major General Helmut Poppe took over on Aug. 29th command also of the 2. Border Brigade of the National People's Army, commanded formerly by the Home Minister of the East zone. This followed by the dissolving of the garrison headquarters of Soviet troops in Berlin.
