Jan. 01, 1967 - Rome, 24.1.67 President Nikolai Podgorny the first Soviet head of state to visit the country, arrived today in Rome for a week-long visit to Italy. The last visit by a Russian head of state to Italy was by Zar Nicholas II in 1909. The Podgorny visit returns one by then President Giovanni Gronchi to Moscow in 1960.
