Safe cycling and motor cycling campaign, London
Jun. 16, 1950 - Safe Cycling And Motor Cycling Campaign: A nationwide road safety campaign was launched today and will continue until September 30th. It will be known as the Safe Cycling and motor cycling campaign. It is being organised jointly by the Ministry of Transport, the Scottish Home Department and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, with the support of more than a thousand road safety committees in Great Britain. The object of the campaign is to reduce the number of accidents on the roads for all who ride on two wheels. Richard Rugent, MP Parliamentary Secretary at the Ministry of Transport, and chairman of the Government Committee for Road Safety, performed the launching ceremony at St Paul's School, Hammersmith. The audience numbered about 600 boys between the ages of 9 and 17. A young audience was chosen to symbolise the appeal of road safety workers to the drivers of tomorrow.
