Oct. 10, 1961 - Sandor Konya having a rest: Actually he should be under contract with the New York Metropolitan Opera for the season 1961/62. But the Met is not going to open for this season for its director Bing was not willing to pay the higher wages for the members of the orchestra according to the trade union. In this case the deficit of the Met would again be raised instead of lowered. Sandor Konya, who was born in Hungary, is one of the best known singers of the world. He is usually singing as a member of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, the Berlin Municipal Opera and in Milan, Florence, Bayreuth and other well-known opera houses of the world.
