SAS storm Iranian Embassy to end six-day siege, London

May 06, 1980 - SAS Squad storm Iranian Embassy And Free Hostages: The six-day siege of the Iranian Embassy in London's Knightsbridge ended last night in a joint police-Special Air Services Regt Operation in which the remaining 19 hostages were brought out alive from the bombed and brning buildingwith three of the five terrorists shot dead, one wounded and the other taken by SAS. Among the hostages freed were the three Britons - PC Trevor Lock. Simon Harris, a BBC sound recordists, and Mr. Ronald Morris, a clerk at the Embassy. Sir David McNee, Metropolitan Police Commissioner, said the embassy was stormed after it was learned that two hostages inside the building had been killed. The terrorists had threatened to kill one hostages every half-hour unless their demands were met. There was no alternative but to send in the SAS to end the siege, Sir David added.
