Scallow Warrant, bay stallion, at Shire Horse Show
1968 - Shire Horses Show at Peterborough.: Fears that shire horses - descendants of the horses used centuries ago to carry knights into battle - were dying out as breed were dispelled yesterday in Peterborough, where entries in the Shire Horse Show totalled 114 - largest figure for 15 years. Pictured here is Scallow Warrant, a five year old bay stallion - one of the fine specimens on show. The Queen is patron of the Shire Horse Society
