Mar. 22, 1972 - March 22nd 1972 New look for school meals at Barnsbury School for Girls in Islington - An experimental cafeteria service at seven inner London secondary schools designed to offer a wide selection of separately priced dishes and snacks in addition to the traditional school meal, has been approved by the Schools Sub-Committee. A special arrangement agreed with the Department of Education and Science will permit prices in the cafeteria to reflect the subsidy normally payable for school dinners, working out at roughly twice the raw food cost Barnsbury School for Girls, Islington, has been operating a pilot cafeteria system since last year and has proved that the choice of such foods as soup, rolls, salads, fried dishes, tea and coffee are very popular among pupils.
