Scottish Rifles on duty near Buckingham Palace, London
Nov. 11, 1965 - Royal duties in two capitals: During temporary absence of the 1st Battalion Irish Guards on training and due to moves of other Battalions of the Household Brigade abroad, the 1st Battalion The Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) at present stationed in Edinburgh, are recording a unique achievement this month when a detachment of the Regiment perform Public Duties in London. This is the frist time in living memory that a Scottish Infantry Regiment has performed these duties in both the capital of Scotland and the capital of England at the same time. A detachment of 11 officers and 250 soldiers who arrived in London on Monday will take over Public Duties at Buckingham Palace, St. James's Palace, the Tower of London and the Bank of England. Their first guard was this morning and they will mount on alternate days, sharing these duties with the 2nd Battalion Scots Guards from Caterham Barracks. The remainder of the 1st Battalion the Cameronians will continue to carry out their normal duties in Edinburgh until the return of this detachment on November 30th.
