Sculpture at LCC housing estate, Bethnal Green, London
Jul. 07, 1959 - Sculpture group Lesson unveiled at London housing estate. Sir Isaac Sayward, Leader of the LCC this morning unveiled the statue group Lesson the work of Franta Belsky, on the Avebury Estate, Bethnal Green. The group depicts a mother and child and is the first result of the LCCs policy of providing up to 20, 000 a year on acquiring or commissioning works of art as features of housing schemes, parks, road improvements, and schools. The group is 5ft. 4in in height and is sited on a 1ft 8ins. Pedestal on a raised play area for toddlers. Photo shows One year old John Nicholson who lives on the estate takes a quizzical view of the group after the unveiling ceremony today
