Sculpture by Walter Sack, adapted as nesting box for birds

Jul. 07, 1963 - A Skyscraper for song-birds: was created by the sculptor Walter Sack from Ludwigsburg, who became well-known during the last few years with his modern, mostly unconventional sculptures. Originally he had made this work of art just to enliven the facade of a new building. The tree was to show the rising of the skyscrapers of today and the irregular arranged iron rods were a sort of aerial as a connection of the sculpture to the space. Then one day the sculptor noticed a bird which hardly nested in a carpet rod. His love for animals won and he hollowed out the tree and so the sculpture became an ideal nesting-box for birds
