UN Security Council, resolution on Czechoslovakia situation
Aug. 08, 1968 - SECURITY COUNCIL BEGINS DEBATE ON SITUATION IN CZECHOSLOVAKIA The Security Council tonight began a debate, at the request of six Council members, concerning the present serious situation in the Czechoslovakia Socialist Republic'. The decision, to take up this item as requested today by Canada, Denmark, France, Paraguay, United Kingdom and the United States, was taken by a vote of 13 in favour to 2 against (Hungary, Soviet Union). In the debate, statements were made by the representatives of Czechoslovakia, United States, Canada, France, Denmark, Hungary, Brazil, Soviet Union and United Kingdom. Before the adoption of the agenda, statements were made by the representatives of the Soviet Union (who sent a letter opposing discussion of the item), the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Denmark and Paraguay.
