Segrave Trophy presented to widow of Bruce McLaren

Jul. 07, 1970 - Segrave Trophy Presented To Bruce McLaren's Widow New Zealand Driver Honoured For Outstanding Achievement: In a simple ceremony at the Brands Hatch Racing Circuit (Kent) today, Bruce McLaren's widow, Mrs Pat McLaren, received the Segrave Trophy from the Marquess Camden, Chairman of the Awarding Committee and the RAC Competitions Committee. With the agreement of Mrs McLaren, the time and place were chosen so that McLaren's fellow racing drivers, practiding for Saturday's RAC British Grand Prix, could be present. The trophy in memory of record-breaker Sir Henry Segrave, is an annual award for the British subject who accomplishes the most outstanding demonstration of the possibilities of transport by land, air or water. The announcement that McLaren was the 1969 winner was about to be made at the time of his fatal accident. The citation reads: To Bruce McLaren, for his outstanding performance in winning every race in the 1969 Canadian-American Challenge Cup series in cars of his own design and construction, and thus upholding British prestige before the world'.
