Sentences pronounced in Majdanek Trials, Dusseldorf

Apr. 16 Pronouncing Judgement in the Majdanek Trials: On June 30th 1981 the judgements of the probable last great Nazi trial, which lasted more than 5 1/2 years, was pronounced at the court of Dusseldorf, West Germany. The former warder of the concentration camp, Hermine Ryan-Braunsteiner (61) was the only defendant who got life imprisonment. Hildegard Lachert, 61, seen here, generally known as Bloody Brigida, was convicted to an imprisonment of 12 years. The former SS leader of the protective custody camp, Hermann Hackmann, got 10 years. The other defendants were convicted to imprisonments of some years, one of them was discharged. After pronouncing judgement there were protests and demonstrations of former prisoners of the concentration camp and also of many young people. In the opinion of many observers the punishments were too mild
