Sergej Eisenstein, Russian director and film maker
Jan. 01, 1978 - 80th Birthday of Sergej Eisentein: 80 years ago, on January 23rd, 1898, in Riga/Latvia the Soviet director and author Sergej Michailovic Eisenstein (our picture) was born. First Eisenstein studied engineering, before he in 1920 became director and scenic designer at the cad-cult-theatre in Moscow. In 1923 he shot the film Glumow's diary, in 1924 Statschka and later he became famous worldwide for his revolution-film Battleship Potemkin'. Eisenstein is considered as one of the biggest directors and most important theorist of film. Other known films of Eisenstein are Que viva Mexico, Alexander Nevski, Iwan Grosny I and II'. He died during the preparations for the third piece of Iwan Grosny (on February 11th 1948 in Moscow)
