Sgt Brummy Stokes reaches summit of Mount Everest
May 05, 1976 - Britons Reach Summit Of Mount Everest: It was announced from Katmandu today that two British members of the joint British-Nepalese Army expedition have reached the summit of Mount Everest. The two men are named as Sgt. J.H. Stokes, 30, of Birmingham, and Cpl. M.P. Lane, 30, of Manchester. Both men spent the night in a bivouac below the south summit, and are reported to be suffering from frostbite. Photo Shows Picture received in London today of Sgt.
