Shen Ping leaving Foreign Office after meeting, London

Aug. 08, 1967 - Mr. Brown Sends Message to Peking. In an attempt to end the present crisis, the Foreign Secretary, Mr. George Brown, yesterday sent a message to Chen Yi, the Chinese Foreign Minister proposing a discussion on ways of resuming normal diplomacy. But the message did not start out from London in the normal diplomatic way. Shen Ping, the Chinese Charge d'Affaires, had an icy meeting with a senior Foreign Office man, and refused to take responsibility for transmitting it to Peking.
