Shire horses of Young's Brewery preparing for parade
Jun. 19, 1974 - 16 Brewery Shire Horses Go on Parade: Sixteen of Young's Brewery's magnificent shire horses were on parade at the brewery in Wandsworth today, to give a live demonstration of the inscription on one of the brewery's beer engines reading: Created for 12 horses power May 1835 and altered to 16 horses power October 1863. The beer engine, along with a newer model installed in 1867, is still at work at the brewery today giving power for milling and mashing. Photo shows Wandie Brigadier, one of the sixteen brewery shires, is somewhat amazed as Gertrude, a Muscovy duck and her brood pass by during the parade at Wandsworth today.
