To conquer the world by music that is what Shoko Sugitani is wanting. Maybe she is lucky enough to do so. Living in Dusseldorf, West Germany she is just coming back from a concert journey through her home country Japan. Now new engagements in foreign countries are waiting for her. On 11 March she will have a solo-concert in London, on 30 March there will be a concert together with the London Symphony Orchestra in the British Capital. Shoko Sugitani learned to play piano first from her mother, then she was taught at the Tokyo National University for Arts and Music. In 1969 she came to Europe and became a student of Detlef Kraus (Essen, West Germany, Ludwig Hoffman (Munich, West Germany) and Gunter Ludwig (Cologne, West Germany) in autumn 1976 she successfully passed the examinations at the Musikhochschule of Cologne. She won the Folkwangpreis (1971), the second prize at the Concurso International Maria Canals (1972 Barcelona, Spain) and the silver medal at the Concorso Internationale Musica, G.B. Viotti (1973 Italy). A great career seems to wait for the Japanese pianist with the German soul as Shuko Sugitani is called by the press
