Shorter shorts upset the starter: Apparently

Aug. 08, 1977 - Shorter shorts upset the starter: Apparently somewhere there is a man with a gun who objects to facing up to his responsibilities. He refuses to go to the rear of the race-starting line when the girls are wearing shorter and shorter shorts. And so he has been invited not to attend the Sunsilk sponsored Women's National Athletics Championships at London's Crystal Palace on August 19th and 20th. The official involved thinks the ladies shorts are unsuitable. So they are now seeking starters and marksmen with more modern thinking. Photo shows lining yp to give a view of what the starter saw are from L-R 400 metres record holder Dona Hartley, sprinter-hurdler Sharon Colyear; 800 metres International Lesley Kiernan and 100m and 200m champion Sonia Lannaman
