Siegestor, Munich, preparation for Olympic City

Feb. 02, 1972 - Olympic City Munich: The Siegestor was built between 1845 and 1852 copying the Konstantin Arc in Rome, by Order of King Ludwig I. During the second world war the building was damaged (top left). After the war the following inscription was engraved Consecrated for victory, ruined by the war, admonishing to peace'. After May the Siegestor will be decorated by the Quadriga again, a team of lions from 1850 (right). The monument, which weighs about 45000 pounds and has a height of about 10 ft. was damaged during the war as well. After that the fragments of it were lying in the back yard of a construction office
