Silver and alabaster vases from Hawara Sarcophagus, Egypt

May 05, 1956 - Bone Fragments-BJT to Mummy in the Hawara Sarcophagus: The Sarcophagus found in a tomb recently unearthed at Hawara in Fayum province, was opened in the presence of the Egyptian Minister of Education, Major Kamal El Dine Hussein. The Sarcophagus was full of water, and after this had been drained fragments of leg bones were found. It had been expected that the Sarcophagus would contain the mummy of Princess Neferu P Tah of the 12th Dynasty. Silver receptacles found near the sarcophagus in the burial chamber had the name of the Princess inscribed on the large alabaster urn shaped as a vase and other urns the size of tumblers were also found inside the sarcophagus. The tomb was discovered on April 16 below a small pyramid of clay. Two kilometers away lies Hawara Pyramid, built by the Princess's father.
