Sir Alan Herbert cashes cheque written on a cow
Aug. 08, 1970 - Sir Alan Herbert Celebrates 60 Years with Punch: For sixty years Sir Alan Herbert has Contributed to Punch Magazine. Today marks the anniversary, and to celebrate what is believed to be the the longest period any writer / journalist has written regularly for one magazine, Punch presented Sir Alan with a cheque written on the side of a cow. (This was one subject in his famous series of Misleading Cases.) It was signed by editor William Davis and then cashed by Sir Alan at the St Paul's branch of Barclays Bank.
