Jan. 01, 1962 - THE LORD MAYOR OF LONDON PLAYS AGAINST THE WORLD CHESS CHAMPION IN SIMULTANEOUS CHESS MATCH The world chess champion from Russia, 50 year old MIKHAIL BOTVINNIK, today played a simultaneous exhibition chess match against twenty opponents, including SIR FREDERICK HOARE, the Lord Mayor of London, at London University. Botvinnik recently won the premiers tournament of the Hastings Chess Congress.
