Sir Robert Mayer, founder of Youth and Music

Jun. 06, 1977 - Sir Robert Mayer is 98 on Sunday: Sir Robert founder of Youth and Music will be celebrating his 98th birthday on Sunday, with a Gala evening at Covent Garden to mark both his own birthday and the Silver Jubilee of the Queen, who first attended his concerts for children in the 1930s. It will be given by outstanding young musicians. At the age of 11, Sir Robert Mayer, who was a child prodigy at the piano, wanted to take part in a competition which was being judged by Brahms, but they said he was too young but he was allowed to sit next to him during the competition. Photo shows Sir Robert Mayer who will be 98 on Sunday sitting in his favourite chair in his London home looking at a birthday card
