Sir William Gladstone, new Chief Scout, London
Jul. 27, 1972 - New Chief Scout; Britain's 556, 000 Scouts have a new Chief. He is 46 year old Sir (Erskine) William Gladstone, Bt DLMA, who has been appointed Chief Scout of the United Kingdom and Dependent Territories by the council of the Scout Association at a special meeting in London yesterday. Sir William, the 7th Baronet, succeeded his father in 1968 and is the great grandson of William Ewart Gladstone, the Victorian Prime Minister. He is married with two sons and a daughter.
