January 24, 1965 - Sir WINSTON CHURCHILL (November 30, 1874 - January 24, 1965) was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom as well as Chancellor of the Exchequer. Churchill was uniquely stirred by the challenge of war and found his fulfillment in leading the democracies to victory. It was to prove more important that as a democrat, he was disgusted by the rise of totalitarian systems in Europe.
