Sirima Bandaranaike, candidate for Prime Minister of Ceylon

Jul. 07, 1960 - She is expected to be the World's first Woman Prime Minister: Results in yesterday general election in Ceylon (Sri Lanka) assured Mrs. Sirima Bandaranaike's social Democratic Freedom Party of victory, with 73 of the 157 seats in the House of Representatives. Her alliance seemed certain to be able to form a Government and it seems almost certain that Mrs. Bandaranaike, widow of Ceylon's assassinated Premier, will become the world's first woman Prime Minister. Photo shows a recent picture of Mrs. Bandaranaike, who may be Ceylon's Prime Minister
