Soviet delegate Emelyanov leaves conference hall, Vienna

Oct. 7, 1961 - Soviet delegate left conference hall demonstratively. Before the swearing-in ceremony for the Swedish nuclear scientist, Sigvard Eklund as new Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, the Soviet delegate Emelyanov had delivered an aggressive speech against the United States accusing them of making the Atomic Energy Agency an instrument for their politics, and he also demonstrated against the election of Eklund. Shortly before the swearing-in ceremony of the new Director General, Vasily Emelyanov left the conference hall. The other members of the Soviet delegation did not leave.
