Dec. 12, 1957 - 12-12-57 The Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year George Derek Ibbotson, Britain's famous runner, was elected Sportsman of the Year when he swept into first place in a record ballot of votes. Diana Wilkinson, the 13-year old swimmer of Stockport, Cheshire, was elected Sportswoman of the Year. The youngest ever lassie to win this national accolade. Last night millions of TV viewers saw the presentation of the trophies at Grosvenor House.
