Queen Juliana To Launch The S.S. Rotterdam: Queen Juliana of the Netherlands is to launch the s.s. Rotterdam, new flagship of the Holland-America Line, at the yards of the Rotterdam Dockyard Company on Saturday, September 13th. The ship which will eventually have a tonnage of about 37, 000, will actually weigh 18, 500 tons at the moment of launching. The keel was laid on the 14th. December 1956, and she is expected to make her Maiden Voyage in the autumn of 1959. With a length of 748 feet and a beam of 94 feet, the Rotterdam will be the largest passenger ship ever built in the Netherlands, and will features a unique exterior appearance because she will be the first major trans-Atlantic passenger ship without the traditional funnel or funnels.
