Apr. 23, 1970 - Shakespeare's Birthday Celebrated By Raising Flag Of St. George On Site Of New Elizabethan Theatre.: Today - St. George's Day and Shakespeare's Birthday, actress Elvi Hale raised the Flag of St. George on the site of a New Elizabethan Theatre in Islington, London. Miss Hale who recently played Anne of Cleves in the BBC Television Series The Six Wives of Henry The Eighth, is the wife of George Murcell, the Artistic Director of St. George's Elizabethan Theatre Ltd. The Company which intends to convert the Church of St. George, and the adjoining property, in Tufnell Park Road, Islington, into a modern Elizabethan Theatre and Arts Centre. After the Flag-Raising ceremony, George Murcell and Christopher Plummer, the actor, spoke about the Project.
