Stage coach for Queen Elizabeth II in Edinburgh

May 05, 1969 - The Scottish stage coach: A ceremonial coach has been specially prepared for the Queen to use for the first time on the occasion of Her Majesty's state opening of hte General Assembly of the church of Scotland in Edinburgh on 20th May, 1969. This coach is known as the Scottish State coach. It is not a completely new coach, but it is one which has been extensive remodelled. It was built in 1830 by Adams and Hooper of the Haymarket and shortly after that George Hooper bought out Mr. Adams and the firm carried on business as Hooper Company the famous coachbyiulders until 1959. This coach belonged to Princess Marry Adelaide, Duchess of Teck, who was a grand daughter of George III and the mother of Queen Mary. It was originally a town coach, that is to say an enclosed coach with a box seat for a coachman. Subsequently the coach was sold to the Fourth earl of Albemarle, who was Master of the Horse from 1830 to 1841, and it was converted into an open Position Landau. And about 1930 the Seventh Earl of Albemarle, whop who was a Lord in Waiting to King George V. Presented it to Queen Mary In 1968-69 the carriage was restored to a closed coach with an entirely new and original body and has beeb decorated withcottish insignia. It bears a model of the Crown of Scotlandof the roof, and the Royal Arms for Scotland, together withe insignis of the Order of the Thistls, on the doers andrter panels. An entirely new and unique feature of theh is the transparent panels similar to those in the Rollsoes, which have been fotted into the roof.
