Stained glass window unveiled, Southwark Cathedral, London

Oct. 10, 1949 - Stained glass window unveiled in Southwark Cathedral. Mr Joseph Charles, first secretary to the US Embassy, deputised for Mr Lewis Doughlas, at today's unveiling of a stained glass window in the Harvard Chapel of Southwark Cathedral. The window commemorates John Harvard, founder of Harvard University, who was born in Southwark, and it was first unveiled in 1905. When the Cathedral was bombed, the window was smashed. The pieces were collected, sent to America, refashioned in the original design and returned for today's dedication. Photo shows Mr Charles speaking after the unveiling of the window
