Jul. 07, 1956 - British Railways buy Luxury Mansion. It is to be used by Railway Trainees: It was announced yesterday that British Railways have purchased - for an undisclosed sum - the luxury mansion - fifty roomed New Lodge which stands in 54 acres at the edge of Windsor Forest. The estate includes a village - a church - a boating lake - meadows and woodland. It was built 100 years ago and a mong its first guests was Queen Victoria. The building is to be used to accommodate railwaymen learning how to make the trains run on time. Photo shows the staircase which is oak panelled and a stained glass window - of New Lodge.Windsor
