Stalag Luft III prison camp reconstructed for film
Jul. 07, 1962 - The Great Escape': During World War II, 76 allied prisoners-of-war succeeded in escaping from prisoners camp Stalag Luft III which was said to be escape-proof'. 50 escapees were discovered and executed. Two found their way to freedom (they reached Sweden). The reamaining were taken into prison again. This greatest mass escape of allied prisoners-of-war is now being made into a film by John Sturges at Munich-Geiselgasteig for an American film production. For the film, the camp Stalag Luft III has been reconstructed according to the original. Photo shows a part of the reconstructed camp
