Stanley Lowe, long-term prisoner, at Wandsworth
Oct. 10, 1963 - Ex Old Lag Calls On The Governor: Formerly known as the King of theon men, Stanley Lowe who has spent a large number of his 41 years in prison, went to Wandsworth Prison, from which he was released two years ago, yesterday, wearing a 54 guinea Savile Row suit, and carrying a bouquet of flowers for the prison Governor. For Stanley, who during his career as a confidence trickster, posed as a peer, a Harley Street surgeon, a foreign ambassador, and even got a job as a footman to Queen Mary, in an attempt to steal her jewels, considers that it was the help and guidance given to him in the rehabilitation centre at the prison, two years ago, influenced him in his decision to go straight, and his flowers were a gesture of thanks.
