Statues on display from Westminster Abbey, London

Feb. 09, 1953 - Treasure from the Abbey on show at St James's Palace, priceless relics from the past. The closing of Westminster Abbey in order that coronation preparations can be carried out has made it possible for a number of the famous Abbey priceless treasures to be exhibited to the public. They are now on show at St James's Palace and have been authorised by the Queen. The exhibition includes many treasures which are normally locked away out of sight, including coronation gold plate, crimson and gold copes fashioned for the crowning of Charles II, historic statues, embroideries and a priceless contemporary portrait of Richard II together with documents with royal signatures, vestments, altar cloths, candlesticks etc. spanning seven centuries. Photo shows statues from Henry VII's Chapel at the exhibition. They are L-R: St Margaret; St Wilgeforte (alias St Uncumber): St Elizabeth; and St Dorothy dated about 1815 AD
