Stephenson's Rocket outside Royal Albert Hall, London

Aug. 08, 1979 - The Albert Hall gets a rocket! Even Prince Albert would have thought it old hat. Today Londoners saw the arrival of a newly built copy of Stephenson's Rocket in Hyde Park, close by the Royal Albert Hall where it will launch demonstration runs on Thursday after the Rt Hon Norman St John Stevas, Minister for the Arts, has welcomed the relic of a past age of transport. The Rocket has been commissioned by the Science Museum and will run on a track in Albert Memorial Road from 25 August until 2 September, after which it will normally be on display in the National Railway Museum, York which is part of the Science Museum.
