Jan. 01, 1981 - Birthday of Rudolf Caracciola The famous German racer Rudolf Caracciola would become 80 years. The son of a wine merchant - born 1901 in Remagen, drove races during the twenties (most time for Mercedes) and became one of the most popular exponents of this sport. Rudolf Caracciola was a successful German Grand Prix Driver before the Second World War, - altogether he won 15 Great Prizes, six times the Prize of Germany; three times he was the European champion, at mountain-races he drove the 20 best-times on day and was the winner of four great sports-car races and rallies. The last race, where he started, was the Great Prize of Bern in the year 1952. Rudolf Caracciola died on September 28th. 1959 in Kassel, West Germany.
