Student demonstration against the government, Saigon
Dec. 12, 1964 - Student demonstrations against government in Saigon: crowds of people, many of them students, demonstrated in front of the Buddhist Institute in Saigon recently and began by throwing rocks at the police and soldiers in the early hours of the morning they burned cans of gas which they took from trucks and equipment of the water system authorities. Then they set fire to the trucks. The police threw teargas and many fights broke out. Then a rioter threw a hand grenade into the crowd - wounding several of the riot police. The demonstrations were against the new government. Photo shows troops with fixed bayonets and wearing steel helmets keep the rioting students at bay during the demonstrations in Saigon
