Students mourn fellow-student in Berlin, Germany

Jun. 06, 1967 - Berlin Students Mourn for Their Fellow Student: Students laid down flowers where their fellow student Benno Ohnesorg (26) died on the night of Saturday (3.6) on June 4th. The police had hermetically blocked this part of the Krumme Strasse and only neighbours, flower carriers and journalists were allowed to pass. German's socialist youth Die Falken (the Falcons) erected on the estate of the student village Siegmindshof a cross as memorial. Gunther Grass, the well known German author and the theologian Prof Gollwitzer were the most prominent orators who spoke to the approximately 3, 000 students who had assembled in the auditorium of the Wiso faculty in spite of the ban on demonstrations. Gollwitzer as well as Gunther Grass declared their solidarity with the students concerning the death of their fellow student and the hard measurements of the police one day ago.
